Solo Exhibition Unknown Felix

Solo exhibition of one painting
from the collection of the State Russian Museum

On October 27, 2016, for the first time in the last hundred years, the famous Valentin Serov's painting "Portrait of Prince Felix Yusupov, Count Sumarokov" (1903) will be put on display in the Yusupov Palace on the Moyka River.

The grand equestrian portrait of one of the last owners of the Yusupov Palace is painted in the best artistic traditions of the turn of the 20th century. It is rightfully placed among the most renowned works of the great Russian artist Valentin Serov. This commissioned portrait is one of four canvases in the famous series of portraits of Princes Yusupov dynasty.

The mission of the solo exhibition Unknown Felix is to draw attention to the brilliant officer and extraordinary man, whose name is often brought up only in connection with the conspiracy against Grigory Rasputin masterminded by a group of noblemen led by his son Felix Yusupov Junior. Prince Felix Yusupov Senior, count Sumarokov-Elston was, however, one of the prominent figures of his age and of Russian history as a whole.

The exhibition will also feature photographs (including rare historic photos) from the archives of the Yusupov family.

The Exhibition is open daily 11:00-17:00
The painting is demonstrated as part of the Tour of the Princes' Living Quarters or Audio Tour of the Palace program
